I restarted development, hooh boy.

I'm happy to announce Build 1 Gameplay Test, Alpha 1.0.0. of Cataptation (post reset.)

As I mentioned on the Discord server; this is after a development reset, so we're back at square one. So please report *everything* you think doesn't work or needs fixed, and please throw suggestions my way, I'll be happy to take any and all criticism as it is very much appreciated!

Development of this has been very smooth now that I know what I want, what I'm doing, and how I'm doing it. Especially after Gamemaker Studio went free for non-commercial use. I now have many, many more ideas and plans underneath my belt and a lot more to work with overall. I've been extremely excited to share this so I hope you look forward to where it'll go after this.

If you are unable to play the game, I will be uploading an unlisted gameplay run of the game to YouTube so you can at least see the new build in action, keep in mind the game no longer supports 32bit cpus or operating systems.

Thanks for keeping up with the project.

Major changes compared to the GMS 1.4 version:

  • Moved to Gamemaker Studio 2.0
  • The artstyle has been entirely redone.
  • The resolution of the game is now 1024x768.
  • Reworked the menu system.
  • Main controls are now the keyboard AND mouse, similar to that of Starbound.
  • Sword swinging and controls have been rewritten entirely.
  • Each type of sword is no longer three seperate objects that need three seperate collision calls.
  • Smooth Camera movement is now based on a seperate object instead of Mira.
  • Mira now has a max vertical speed of 25 downwards
  • Dashing on ground has been redone.
  • There is now an inventory system with four equippable slots.
  • There is now an Attack and Defence statistic.
  • Points (will) have a use.
  • You can now hold the right mouse button to move the camera around.
  • There are now barrels and chests instead of just crates.
  • There are now bombs.
  • There are now metal puzzle boxes.
  • The shield is functional.
  • Crates are no longer multi-colored.
  • Texture Page size was turned back down to 2048x2048 for assistance with ram allocation.
  • Platforms are more trustworthy.
  • The debug menu is even more debuggy.
  • Lighting is now prebaked via tiles instead of realtime, which was performance heavy.
  • New sound effects for existing things.
  • Sound effect levels have been redone.
  • There is now a RAM cache limiter, which isn't as effective as it should be, but it works.
  • Collision was rewrote slightly, which unfortunately means it is slightly more buggy, but will be fixed in the future.
  • Plans for Chapter 1 through 4 have been entirely rewritten.
